Celtic look set to make contact with Manchester City
It is official, Ange Postecoglou has left Celtic in order to join Tottenham Hotspur. The reaction of the fans to the move has been mixed to say the least. Most are appreciative of what the Australian achieved at Parkhead. He took a team that had finished trophyless and 25 points behind the Rangers, and won five titles with them in two seasons.
At the same time though, many have been left disappointed by his exit after just two seasons. At 57 years of age though, one can understand why he did so. Opportunities like this are not expected to come often for him in the future.
Now, Celtic will need to bring in a new manager this summer in order to replace Postecoglou. And whoever comes in will have big boots to fill for sure.
Several names have cropped up over the past few days. One that is starting to gain some momentum though is that of Enzo Maresca, who is a coach at Manchester City right now.
Celtic look set to make contact with Manchester City
As reported by Football Scotland, Manchester City are braced to receive an official approach from Celtic to speak with Maresca. The coach turned down an offer from Southampton only a few weeks ago.
Maresca is very highly rated as a coach but he has not proven himself as a manager yet. In fact, his only role till now has been at Parma in Serie B, and that proved to be a huge failure for him. He was shown the exit door November after a bad run of form.
Thus, there would be a huge risk involved in giving him the Celtic job. It is not the first time that the club have been linked with Maresca though. In fact, he was believed to be a candidate for the job back in the summer of 2021 too.
