Ange Postecoglou has made the most high profile move of his career, signing a four-year contract with Tottenham Hotspur to become their new manager. There have also been suggestions that he declined the Celtic board’s offer to continue at Parkhead. And although the fans are not seemingly pleased with the departure of their head coach, most will understand the reasoning behind it and wish him well.

Tottenham Hotspur’s decision to appoint Postecoglou leaves the Scottish side in a difficult situation. And now, it looks like they face the prospect of losing their long-time assistant manager as well.

As reported by The Mail+, John Kennedy has told Celtic that he wants to leave to join Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur.

However, Celtic are believed to be reluctant to let Kennedy go. The Hoops want to keep first-team coach Gavin Strachan and video analyst Greg Wallace at the club too.

After Postecoglou, another Celtic man looks to leave

Postecoglou, who joined Celtic Park in 2021 without his previous coaching staff from Yokohama F. Marinos, started to work with the likes of Kennedy in Glasgow itself. And it is clear that he was impressed with what he saw from him.

Celtic’s determination to retain Kennedy, Strachan, and Wallace highlights the value they place on their coaching staff. They recognise the importance of maintaining stability and continuity within the management team during a transitional period. Now, it remains to be seen if they are successful in their attempts or not.

Kennedy came through the ranks at Celtic, and after seeing his playing career cut short, he has worked in a number of different roles for the club. It does not feel like he is line for the managerial job anytime soon though and as a result, it is not hard to see why he could potentially look for a change in scenery.
