Celtic might have won the Scottish Cup, and secured a historic treble, but the headlines have been dominated by speculation about the future of Ange Postecoglou. It is undeniable that the rumours linking him with a move to Tottenham Hotspur did take some of the shine away from the Hoops’ triumph.

It was a mixture of joy for the present and worry about the future. And even though the season is now, Postecoglou’s situation is no more clearer that it was going into the Scottish Cup final.

The manager has decided not to discuss the Tottenham Hotspur rumours in public, instead trying to focus on the present. That has worried Celtic fans even more though, who want some clarity on the situation. Many have read into his post-match body language as that of a man who knew he was on his way out and was soaking it all in for one last time.

On the other hand, it is very possible that even Postecoglou has not decided his future yet. There have been suggestions that Tottenham Hotspur will open talks now that the season is over. And the Australian might want to have a look at what is on offer before making a decision.

Carl Starfelt’s comments amidst all this might give some hope to Celtic supporters. As reported by The National, the Swedish defender said:

"“He is a really good manager and is really important for Celtic.“Whatever happens, I have no idea. We will just wait and see. I guess he is really proud of this season.“He said how proud he is of everyone: the staff, the players. That was the main message. If anyone knows how hard we’ve been working… it’s not only the games, it’s coming into training everyday with a big focus and desire.“Everyone sees the games but that’s what needed if you want to win things. He is really proud that we have won.”No [it did not sound like farewell], absolutely not. But we will wait to see.”"

It remains to be seen what the future holds. Celtic fans will be hoping that Postecoglou decides to stay on though.

Postecoglou arrived with the club in a terrible position after the 2020/21 campaign and very little expectations. From there, he has delivered five trophies in two seasons while also rebuilding the squad. Thus, he deserves all the credit in the world. And if he was to indeed leave, the club will have a tough time replacing him.
