Celtic hero makes worrying Ange Postecoglou claim
The lead up to the Scottish Cup final between Celtic and Inverness Caledonian Thistle has been somewhat clouded by all the speculation surrounding the future of Ange Postecoglou. The Australian’s incredible success since arriving at Parkhead appears to have caught the attention of Tottenham Hotspur and rumours suggest that the Premier League giants have made him their number one managerial target.
It is not hard to understand why a club like Tottenham Hotspur might attract Postecoglou. At 57 years of age, the chance to manage a Premier League Big Six side will not come around too many more times for him.
Of course, Celtic fans will be hoping that Postecoglou remains at Parkhead. And it remains to be seen what the future holds for him. Worryingly, the Australian has not put the rumours to bed, when questioned about them.
As reported by Glasgow Live, Chris Sutton said while speaking on BT Sport:
"“Ange Postecoglou could have put this story to bed. He could have said ‘I’m staying at Celtic’.“The fact he hasn’t, most Celtic fans are thinking after the cup final something will happen.“This was a guy who is ambitious and will want to manage in the Premier League and it isn’t like when Brendan left under a cloud, most Celtic fans would wish him well.“But if he does go, it will be a massive, massive loss.”"
Celtic hero makes worrying Postecoglou claim amid Tottenham Hotspur rumours
It is true that Postecoglou has not publicly ruled himself out of the race for the Tottenham Hotspur job. But it might be just a case of the Australian keeping his options open and seeing what kind of an offer is on the table.
There have been rumours that Tottenham Hotspur will open talks with Postecoglou after the Scottish Cup final. And there has been nothing to suggest that anything has been agreed, or is close to reaching an agreement yet.
If Postecoglou did leave, then it would be a blow for Celtic for sure. He is a remarkable manager, who has done a terrific job over the last two seasons. He has also earned the love and respect of the fans along the way and if he was to leave at the end of the campaign, he would do so with everyone’s blessings. But at the same time, he would be passing up the opportunity to create a true legacy at Parkhead and go down as a club great.
