As the heat builds on whether Ange Postecoglou will be staying at Celtic or potentially moving on in the summer, and of course the planning for a potentially historic Scottish Cup final, interest is also building up for the upcoming summer transfer window. And it could see one of the club’s struggling players finally depart.
It is unlikely that Postecoglou’s career decision will make much difference to the playing prospects of James McCarthy at Celtic. The player has had limited chances to play over the last two seasons. And it would make sense for him to leave in the summer.
McCarthy signed a four-year deal with Celtic two summers ago and took a while to build his match fitness. But it looks as though the pace and style of the team does not suit him and even under a new boss, if that happens, it’s hard to see his playing time increase.
As reported by 90min, Major League Soccer clubs are eyeing McCarthy. Houston Dynamo and Colorado Rapids in particular have expressed interest in the player
MLS clubs are interested in signing Celtic midfielder
MLS could well offer a great lifestyle and playing opportunity at this stage of McCarthy’s career and may well be a more attractive proposition than playing it out as a squad player with little playing opportunity at Celtic. Or moving to a lower level club in England.
Certainly it’s something McCarthy can keep an eye on as he and other players with limited opportunities at Celtic reconsider their futures over the coming weeks as the new transfer window opens. In fact, it might be perfect for the 32-year-old midfielder.
Let’s see what the future holds for McCarthy. But at this point of time, with the midfielder barely playing, him leaving Celtic would make sense for both parties.
