Celtic find themselves in an interesting position right now. This weekend, they are set to compete in the Scottish Cup final against Inverness CT. If they manage to win, then it will also complete a historic treble for the Hoops. That is incredible for a team that had finished trophyless and 25 points behind the Rangers just a couple of seasons back.
But even though such an important match is coming up for Celtic, the headlines have been dominated by the speculation regarding the future of Ange Postecoglou instead. There have been suggestions that Tottenham Hotspur have made him their number one managerial target.
It is not hard to see why a job of that magnitude might interest Postecoglou. And many people have called upon Celtic to hand him a new long-term deal in order to show their commitment to the project under his management. Right now, he is believed to be on a 12-month rolling contract.
As reported by Football Insider, when asked if Postecoglou deserves a massive new deal at Celtic Park, Frank McAvennie said:
"“Of course he does.“He deserves that and more.“He walked in without a backroom staff, took whoever was there, John Kennedy, Gavin Strachan, and they are obviously doing what he wants.“Ange likes being his own man. A lot of managers need somebody to bounce off, somebody to tell them when they have done something wrong, I do not think Ange needs that.“He has been all over the place and tried to perfect his game and I think it has worked.“"
Celtic must make big offer amid summer exit rumours
It is hard to imagine that anybody could have done a better job than Postecoglou has since arriving at Celtic Park. He has completely transformed the team and turned them back into a winning machine.
That has unsurprisingly caught the eye of clubs down south. This is not the first time that Postecoglou is being linked with a move away from Parkhead. But this time around, the rumours do seem to be picking up pace though and in Tottenham Hotspur, there is a club that could potentially tempt the Australian to leave Celtic.
Postecoglou is 57 years of age and will surely have ambitions of managing in the Premier League one day. At the same time though, he should look at how things ended up for the likes of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte at Tottenham Hotspur.
