Celtic are heading towards the Scottish Cup final against Inverness Caledonian Thistle this weekend. If the Hoops are able to win then they will complete a historic treble. And yet, the build up to the match has been dominated by the speculation around the future of Ange Postecoglou who appears to have emerged as the favourite to be the next manager of Tottenham Hotspur.
Postecoglou has done a brilliant job at Celtic since joining the club in the summer of 2021, under unenviable circumstances. There were many doubts about the Australian’s credentials to manager the Hoops back then.
Postecoglou has proven himself by turning the team back into a trophy-winning machine again. They won the Premiership and League Cup double last season and are closing in on a potential treble this time around.
That kind of success seems to have drawn the interest of Tottenham Hotspur, a club that has not won a trophy in more than a decade. And it remains to be seen what the future holds for Postecoglou.
Celtic boss sends clear message about Tottenham Hotspur links
Postecoglou does not seem to be bothered by all the rumours surrounding his future at the moment though. As reported by 90min, he said about the links to Tottenham Hotspur:
"“Somebody else was favourite last week, weren’t they?“Yeah, so it doesn’t register. I get all the interest and a lot of people love to speculate on these things but we’ve worked really, really hard to get ourselves into this position and for me to let my mind wander about anything else other than getting our team prepared for a big day on Saturday, it’s just not who I am.“You’re making it sound as if this is the first time it’s happened to me. We’ve done this dance a few times this year so I think the players are well aware of where my thoughts lie. You’re not invested in this football club like I am, like my players are and like our supporters are.”"
Postecoglou is a fantastic manager without doubt and there is very little doubt that he would improve a team like Tottenham Hotspur. But he is not a big name appointment, like their fans would be expecting after the likes of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.
Tottenham Hotspur fan reaction to the Postecoglou rumours has been as one would have expected, with many doubts and many even starting a social media campaign to prevent the move from happening. Of course, Celtic supporters will be hoping that they are successful in that goal.
