Brendan Rodgers’ comments about Celtic return emerge
Ange Postecoglou has done a remarkable job since arriving at Celtic in the summer of 2021. He guided the team to a Premiership and League Cup double against all odds in his debut campaign at Parkhead, and is on the verge of winning a treble this time around. Of course, that kind of success has seen him linked with a number of clubs, with the latest being Tottenham Hotspur.
This is not the first time that Postecoglou is being linked with a Premier League club. But the rumours seem a lot more serious this time around though. And there have even been suggestions that he is now Tottenham Hotspur’s number one target.
If Postecoglou was to leave the club, Celtic would have a tough time replacing him. One name that has been floated on social media is that of Brendan Rodgers, who is already a proven success at Parkhead.
Rodgers managed Celtic to great success in the past. And he finds himself without a job at the moment, having being shown the exit door by Leicester City earlier this season. And amidst all the rumours and speculations, the Northern Irishman’s past comments about a Parkhead return have emerged.
Rodgers’ comments about Celtic return emerge
As reported by the Daily Record, back in 2019, Rodgers addressed speculation that he would not be allowed back inside Celtic Park, as he said:
"“I would be hugely, hugely disappointed if I never could go back there. I would be incredibly disappointed if I never could after everything that I’ve given. Would I work in Scotland again? Of course I would. I loved every single second of being there. When it calms down in maybe 10 years, I could maybe go back to Celtic.”"
Of course, the manner of Rodgers’ Celtic exit left a bad taste in the mouths of a lot of supporters. He left the club in the middle of the campaign in order to join Leicester City. Thus, if he was to return someday, it would be interesting to see how the fans react to it.
On paper, a move for Rodgers would make sense on the part of Celtic though, in the scenario that Postecoglou did leave in the summer. The Northern Irishman has a proven track record of success and is a great manager without doubt.
