Ange Postecoglou boost as comments hint at Celtic stay
Rumours have broken out recently that Tottenham Hotspur have made Ange Postecoglou the number one target to be the next manager of the club. Of course, that has left Celtic fans worried. They will not want to see the Australian leave any time soon, after the success that he has enjoyed at Parkhead till now.
Celtic won an unexpected double during Postecoglou’s first season in charge and could go one step further this time around. This weekend, they will be taking on Inverness CT in the Scottish Cup final, with a treble up for grabs for the Hoops.
It is no surprise that that kind of success has led to exit rumours for Postecoglou. And clubs the size and calibre of Tottenham Hotspur seem to be looking to make a move this summer.
The good news for Celtic is that Postecoglou still seems to be preparing for the upcoming summer transfer window and his comments regarding the matter do not sound like that of a man looking to leave. As reported by Glasgow Live, the Australian said:
"“It’s not a precise science. I was trying to be predictive with the January window.“We kind of knew Jura[Josip Juranovic] and [Giorgos] Giakoumakis would go. We are losing two very good players who had contributed greatly to our success.“We thought Oh [Hyeon-gyu] and Alistair [Johnston] both already looked like good players, they are younger than the guys who left, so potentially could have a higher ceiling if we got it right. That’s always the challenge.“This is the probably first window where we’ll really get tested on some of our key players by other clubs. Our planning is in place, so if that happens, it’s like the Jenga puzzle, before it all collapses we’ll hopefully already have a piece in place to ensure you can take one out and still build strong. I like that Jenga analogy!”"
Postecoglou boost as comments hint at Celtic stay
Of course, those comments will be viewed as a positive by most Celtic fans. A lot of reading between the lines has been going on over the past several days, since the Tottenham Hotspur rumours have picked up pace.
At the same time though, Postecoglou is not the only one being linked with a move away from Celtic Park. There are several key players who seem to have caught the attention of clubs down south and across Europe.
With another Champions League campaign coming up, the club must make sure that they keep hold of their best players while also strengthening in some areas. They did not win a single game in the competition last season despite putting in some very promising performances and should aim to improve in that respect.
