Celtic will be looking to complete a historic domestic treble next weekend when they take to the Hampden Park pitch against Inverness Caledonian Thistle. The Hoops will be heavy favourites to win against Championship opposition. On the day, they will be without one of the players, who has been a key reason behind all their successes under the management of Ange Postecoglou.
Cameron Carter-Vickers has been a rock at the back for Celtic over the past couple of seasons. And even more impressively, he is believed to have played a part of this campaign while carrying an injury.
Despite that, he was the best defender in the Premiership. And recently, he underwent surgery, missing the end to Celtic’s season, including the upcoming Scottish Cup final.
The expectation was that Carter-Vickers would miss the start of next season as well. But there is some great news for Celtic in that regard.
Celtic handed unexpected Carter-Vickers news
As tweeted by Larry Henry Jr, Carter-Vickers is expected back for the start of the new Premiership season.
Carter-Vickers returning would be a huge boost for Celtic. He has been their best defender for quite some time now and the Hoops have appeared to struggle at the back in his absence. As a result, they will surely want to have him back available as soon as possible.
Of course, Celtic could further add to their ranks at centre-back in the summer. Stephen Welsh is expected to leave the club, as he has struggled for playing time this season.
On the other hand, the performances of the duo of Carl Starfelt and Yuki Kobayashi has left quite a bit to be desired, in the absence of Carter-Vickers. Thus, it remains to be seen what the future holds. But for the moment, one can only hope that the American international is back fit and available as soon as possible.
