Ange Postecoglou is enjoying a successful tenure at Celtic, having led the team to consecutive Scottish Premiership titles. However, as the summer transfer window approaches, he acknowledges the potential challenges the club may face. Yet somehow, the comments might be music to the ears of the fans.
Celtic’s primary objective has to be to strengthen the squad in preparation for the UEFA Champions League group stages. Of course, that would automatically help them in domestic competitions as well.
It looks like the groundwork for the upcoming challenges is well underway. Nevertheless, the summer transfer window could prove to be tricky for the club.
Speculation surrounding the futures of Celtic players has already emerged. The likes of Liel Abada, Carl Starfelt, Reo Hatate, Kyogo Furuhashi and a few others have been linked with moves away from the club. But even more importantly, there have been suggestions that Postecoglou could be on his way out. The manager’s recent comments might provide the fans some relief though.
Postecoglou’s transfer comments hint at Celtic stay
Despite the rumours linking him with Tottenham Hotspur, Postecoglou certainly is not talking like a manager on his way out. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, while speaking in a media conference on Celtic’s official YouTube channel, the Australian said:
"“We’re not close to confirming anyone but our work started a while back. It’s an ongoing thing. I think this transfer market potentially could be a tricky one for us. It’s the first one where potentially they could come for some of our key players.“We’ve got to be ready for that. We’ve got to insure ourselves against those kinds of things happening. We’ve identified players we think can make us a better side but also the insurance is there if we lose a couple, that we’re still in good shape. Over the course of events those things will get announced. The work is always ongoing.”"
As the anticipation builds, Celtic supporters can take solace in knowing that their club is actively preparing for the challenges that lie ahead. They are well-positioned to strengthen the squad and continue their pursuit of success on both domestic and European fronts.
Even more importantly, it looks like Postecoglou is looking forward to the upcoming campaign. Of course things can change very quickly in football, especially when teams like Tottenham Hotspur could be involved, but it is reassuring to hear the Australian talk about the club’s transfer plans for next season.
