Celtic will need to strengthen further in the summer. If there is one thing that has become clear over the past several games, it is that this squad has room for improvement. One of the areas where they have appeared very weak is their defence. In the absence of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Alistair Johnston, they have leaked goals at the back.
Over the past three league games, they have conceded 9 goals. That is simply not good enough for a club like Celtic.
Thus, do not be surprised if the club add to their backline in the summer. And it looks like they have an English defender in their sights, who is also wanted by the Rangers.
As reported by The Mail+, Rangers and Celtic are both keeping tabs on Switzerland-based English defender, Archie Brown. The Hoops have run checks on him ahead of the summer transfer window.
Celtic and Rangers both want £2 million English defender
The interest in Brown might come as a bit of a surprise. After all, he is playing in the second division of Swiss football, for FC Lausanne-Sport.
He has been very impressive during his time at the club though. Brown has featured both as a left-back and as a left-sided centre-back. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 5 goals and provided 4 assists in 35 appearances across all competitions this season.
Brown came through the ranks at Derby County but never made a senior appearance for the English club. Instead, he ended up joining FC Lausanne-Sport on a free transfer, and that has proven to be the right decision for his career.
Now, it remains to be seen what the future holds for him. Both Celtic and the Rangers seem to be keeping an eye on him. But there are clubs from England, Germany, Italy and Portugal also believed to be interested.
