Celtic and Rangers told to reach agreement after talks
Once again, Celtic and the Rangers will make up the top two in the Scottish Premiership table. Of course, that will surprise nobody as they have been the two most dominant teams in the league for a long, long time. And the biggest spectacle about Scottish football is without doubt the Glasgow Derby.
This season, the two teams met on six occasions. Four times in the league, and twice in cup competitions. Celtic came out on top on four occasions, while the Rangers won only once. One of the derbies ended in a draw.
A lot of the spectacle surrounding the Glasgow Derby has been hurt in recent times though, due to a lack of away fans in the stadiums. Gone are the days of the past when 7500 away fans were expected to be in attendance on the big day.
And many are hoping that the away allocation can be increased as soon as possible, in order to raise the intensity of the Glasgow Derby. Let’s see what happens regarding that in the future.
Celtic and Rangers told to reach agreement after talks
As reported by Football Insider, when asked if there is a chance the sides could return to big away allocations, Alan Hutton said:
"“I hope so.“I loved it as a player, going to Celtic Park or when you are playing at Ibrox against Celtic and the crowd was there. That made the atmosphere and it was something you wanted to be a part of.“To have it in the situation we are in at the moment is just terrible. Something needs to be sorted.“To have a handful of supporters to witness one of the biggest games is really poor. Hopefully they can work it out because it just adds to the occasion having the away support there.“"
It is safe to say that it helps the spectacle associated with the Glasgow Derby, when a large contingent of away supporters are present. Of course, it might take time to return to the big allocations of the past though.
Let’s see how things turn out, as there have been a lot of behind the scenes changes at Ibrox recently. It will be interesting to see what their new vision is regarding the matter, if they do have one. Incoming Rangers chief James Bisgrove seems to be planning talks about it in the future.
