The summer transfer window isn’t yet open, but as always Celtic are expected to be looking to get their business done early. While the club are expected to strengthen their squad further by adding some new faces, some players look set to head out of the exit door. One of those deals might already be in doubt though.

For Albian Ajeti, it is an outgoing deal that has been anticipated for a while. Signed back in the summer of 2020 for a £5 million transfer fee from West Ham United, there were high hopes for the Swiss international when he arrived. There were question marks though as his playing time in England had been very limited.

After a hopeful start in Celtic colours, a pattern of injuries and a lack of goals developed which led to Ajeti slipping down the pecking order and he never won his place back. An exit seems inevitable and he moved away on loan to Sturm Graz, in the last summer transfer window. The deal inlcuded an option to buy for the Austrian club.

Again there were hopes that he would re-establish himself with regular football and he got off to a decent start in Austria. But yet again, he has had to deal with injuries and a lack of goals.

Ajeti has recently suffered yet another injury and it has ruled him out for the season. He is now back in Switzerland receiving treatment, as his hopes to make a permanent move to Sturm Graz seem slim.

As reported by Glasgow Times, Sturm Graz Managing Director Andreas Schicker said about the Swiss striker’s situation:

"“We have a purchase option with Albian Ajeti that is in place until the end of May.“We intend to make a decision on him soon.”"

Ajeti signed for Celtic on a 4-year deal and will have one more year remaining. So, he will return to Glasgow if the option to sign him isn’t taken up by Sturm Graz. But it is hard to see him staying at Parkhead for any considerable length of time.
