Celtic fans must be delighted with how things are going for the club right now. They won the Premiership and League Cup double against all odds and expectations last season. This time around, they have retained both competitions, and will be going for a treble when they take to the Hampden Park pitch against Inverness Caledonian Thistle next month.

With things going so well, Celtic must be careful not to rock the boat. At the same time though, John Kennedy is being linked with a move away from Parkhead.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Hearts sporting director Joe Savage has Kennedy high on his list of options, if Steven Naismith does not get the job permanently. But Parkhead chiefs have a set amount in place that would have to be triggered and the Jambos would face a six-figure compo bill.

Now, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Kennedy. He has spent his entire coaching career at Celtic, and even came through the club’s youth ranks as a player, although injuries cut his career short.

Kennedy has been the part of Celtic’s coaching staff for a long time. For a while, he was even the caretaker manager, after Neil Lennon had left in the middle of the 2020/21 campaign.

As a result, Kennedy is someone who knows the club like the back of his hand. And he has certainly been a valuable part of Postecoglou’s coaching staff. At the same time though, one would expect him to take the managerial jump someday.

That is unlikely to happen at Celtic. When Postecoglou does leave the role in the future, fans would be expecting a big name appointment rather than Kennedy being promoted. Similar rumours had seen a pushback from the supporters in the past.
