Celtic are heading towards an interesting summer transfer window. The club have completely dominated Scottish football this season and will get the chance to win a treble next month, when they face Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Cup final. At the same time though, Ange Postecoglou will know the value of not standing still.

The Hoops have relentlessly added to their ranks during Postecoglou’s time as the manager of the club. And that has been one of the key reasons behind their success.

On the other hand, there could be a few who could head out of the exit door. And the latest contract news might be pointing in that direction.

There was an unexpected update recently. As reported by The Mail+, Scott Bain has put pen to paper on a three-year contract extension.

Bain has not made a single appearance this season till now. And there is little to no chance that he will ever establish himself as a starter for Celtic. Also, 31 years of age, the expectation was that he would leave in the summer.

Thus, many fans have been left scratching their heads over him signing a contract extension. There is one major positive to Bain staying though. He will count as part of the club’s homegrown quota.

That might point towards some of the club’s homegrown players leaving. One name that comes to mind immediately is that of Stephen Welsh.

The Scottish defender came through the ranks at Celtic and has made quite a few appearances at the senior level. But right now, he might be the last choice centre-back in Postecoglou’s pecking order. At this stage of his career, he needs to be playing regularly though. As a result, it would not be a surprise to see him leave in the summer.
