As Celtic look ahead to the summer transfer window and strengthening their squad, there’s a reminder from a player who could possibly still be on Ange Postecoglou’s wish list. In December of last year, there was a lot talk about the club being interested in signing South Korean striker Gue-sung Cho.
Cho was finding the headlines and the back of the net with some great displays for the South Korean national team at the World Cup. And it seemed that he was destined to end up in Glasgow.
That move didn’t happen. Celtic ended up signing fellow South Korean forward, Hyeon-gyu Oh, instead. While Cho seemed to have decided to postpone his plans for a move to Europe and instead work on regaining his fitness. He opted to remain with K League side Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors for the time being.
Oh is settling in well in Glasgow, and he has got 4 goals to his name so far for the Hoops. Plus HE has claimed a League winners medal and is on the lookout for a Scottish Cup winners medal to go with it. On the other hand, Cho has struggled for form and goals since the World Cup.
£3 million striker comments on Celtic transfer regret
As reported by the Daily Record, Cho was asked about Oh’s growth since joining Celtic and if he should have been more confident regarding a move by Korean outlet Cho Sun, and he replied:
"“It is important to stay in shape right now and I will get better in the future.“So I don’t worry too much about it. I think it is important to keep in good shape. Now, if I find my dream again, I think it will be really good. Don’t worry too much. If you work hard, you will be fine.”"
The situation doesn’t seem to be causing the player any concern. Interestingly, it seems very likely that Postecoglou will be on the lookout for another striker in the summer. So, perhaps Cho could still be on the manager’s transfer list.
Indeed with Celtic heading off to Asia for a summer tour with fixtures in Japan and South Korea, there is already speculation that Cho might yet sign for the Hoops. Let us see what the future holds.
