Celtic might have disappointed in the last few games but overall, they have had yet another superb season under the management of Ange Postecoglou. The club have already clinched the Premiership and League Cup double, and when they take to the Hampden Park pitch next month against Inverness Caledonian Thistle, they will be competing for a treble.
For many of the players, this would be their first treble, if they are able to win it. But a few have been here before. One of them is Callum McGregor.
The Celtic captain has won quite a few trebles in his time at Parkhead. In fact, if the Hoops are able to win this one, then McGregor will become the first player in history to have five domestic trebles to his name.
Of course, it would be a mistake to look that far ahead. The focus has to be on winning the next two league games, against Aberdeen and Hibernian, to build up some momentum for the Scottish Cup final against Inverness CT.
Neil Lennon tips Celtic player to break club record
McGregor is still just 29 years of age. As a result, it would not be unreasonable to expect him to perform at a high level for the next five years or so, if he can remain fit.
Lennon has even tipped him to break the all-time club record and become Celtic’s most decorated player in history. As reported by The Herald, the Northern Irishman said:
"“If Celtic beat Inverness in the Scottish Cup final then he’ll have won 20 major honours and I think he’ll go on and set the record for the most decorated player.”"
The most decorated player in Celtic history at the moment is Bobby Lennox, with 25 trophies to his name. McGregor has the chance to add the 20th title to his cabinet next month with the Scottish Cup final. So, at the rate things are going right now, the record seems very much within reach for the club captain.
