Celtic silently broke Invincibles’ record last weekend
Celtic’s 2-2 draw against St Mirren was a forgettable contest to say the least. In fact, the only thing it raised was concerns amongst the fans. The result meant that the Hoops have won only once in their previous four league games. That is not the kind of form they will want to be in going into the Scottish Cup final against Inverness CT, with a treble up for grabs.
It remains to be seen how things will play out over the coming weeks. Celtic still have two more games to play in the league before they take to the Hampden Park pitch next month against the Championship side.
While the St Mirren game might soon be forgotten, it saw Celtic break one of the Invincibles’ records. Ange Postecoglou’s side scored their 107th goal of the league campaign, when Callum McGregor found the back of the net.
On the other hand, the Invincibles had scored 106 goals in that legendary campaign. Now, Postecoglou’s team can move their sights towards the Lisbon Lions, who had scored 111 goals during the 1966/67 league season.

Of course, while it is good to break these records, the more important thing for Celtic will be to get some form back ahead of the Scottish Cup final. Their remaining two league games are against Hibernian and Aberdeen.
Let’s see how the Hoops perform in those two matches. It does feel like they have taken their foot off the gas since clinching the Premiership title against Hearts.
That is unlike Postecoglou’s team, who have followed the ‘We Never Stop’ mantra throughout the campaign until the last few weeks. In many ways, it is only natural though. The Hoops had been relentless their pursuit of a second straight league title and can afford to ease up a bit.
