It is safe to say that Celtic fans are not too fond of Eddie Howe. The club were believed to be chasing his signature, when they were in search of a manager in the summer of 2021. But after months of rumours, a deal failed to transpire and the Hoops ended up bringing in Ange Postecoglou instead.
That has proven to be an inspired move on their part. Celtic won the Premiership and League Cup double last season against all expectations. They have won both those competitions this time around as well, and are still in the running for a treble. They will face Inverness CT in the final of the Scottish Cup next month.
For his part, Howe has done a great job at Newcastle United as well. They look set to qualify for next season’s Champions League. And might end up handing Celtic a boost by signing one of their former players.
As reported by Football Insider, Newcastle United are in pole position to sign Kieran Tierney from Arsenal this summer. Manchester City and Aston Villa are also interested in signing the Scottish international, but the Magpies are now considered favourites to complete a deal.
Newcastle United close to handing major boost to Celtic
Of course, Celtic will have an eye on Tierney’s situation. That is because they are believed to have a sell-on clause in his deal.
It was in the summer of 2019 that Tierney left Celtic, after coming through the club’s youth ranks, in order to join Arsenal. It was a Scottish record £25 million move.
Tierney has had an up and down time since joining Arsenal. At one point of time, he was considered as a future captain of the club. But he has fallen down the pecking order this season and is expected to leave in the summer. It is believed that Mikel Arteta’s side want a £30 million-plus transfer fee for him.
