Celtic have a number of top players, and a brilliant manager, at the club right now. Fans will be hoping that some of them are handed contract extensions as soon as possible and that they remain at Parkhead for the foreseeable future. Let’s see what happens regarding that but it appears that an unexpected player has put pen to paper on a new deal.

The goalkeeping situation at Celtic was a big worry before the arrival of Joe Hart. Since coming in, the Manchester City legend has established himself as the starter between the posts.

Of course, that has seen chances decrease for others in the position. While Vasilis Barkas left the club on loan in the summer, Scott Bain has remained as cover and struggled to get any sort of playing time.

Most people would have expected him to head for the exit door in the summer. But as reported by The Mail+, Bain has put pen to paper on a three-year contract extension.

There is very little expectation that Bain will get the first-team gloves at Celtic on a consistent basis ever again. But it appears that the club are happy with his contribution as a back-up goalkeeper and want to keep him at Parkhead.

This might also be a hint that they are not going to be signing a new goalkeeper in the summer and will stick with the options that they have between the posts. Of course, there is the curious case of Benjamin Siegrist as well.

Siegrist was considered as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premiership during his time at Dundee United and was brought in by Celtic last summer. The expectation was that he would challenge Hart for the first-team gloves but the 31-year-old Swiss has only been able to make a couple of cup appearances.
