Celtic will be looking to bounce back from their 3-0 defeat against the Rangers away at Ibrox in the last Glasgow Derby of the season. While the league is already in the bag for the Hoops, the fans will still be expecting a reaction from the Bhoys when they take on St Mirren at Parkhead this weekend.
It was pretty much expected that Celtic would not get a guard of honour from the Rangers, despite taking to the Ibrox pitch as the champions of Scotland. But most people had assumed that they would get one when they took on St Mirren the following week.
It looks like that won’t be the case either. As tweeted out by PLZ Soccer, St Mirren won’t give champions Celtic a guard of honour before kick off at Parkhead. Their manager, Stephen Robinson, has said it was a decision made above him.
Of course, in the grand scheme of things, it does not matter whether Celtic get a guard of honour or not. They will be lifting the league title regardless. But still, fans would have been expecting to see one as a sign of sportsman spirit.
Celtic fans won’t be happy with St Mirren announcement
After the game against St Mirren, Celtic will have two more league fixtures left. One away at Hibernian. And then the last one at Parkhead against Aberdeen.
It remains to be seen whether either of those two end up giving the champions of Scotland a guard of honour or not. But either way, it should not bother the fans much.
The most important thing is that Celtic build up some momentum over the coming three games. They still have a lot to play for this season, namely the Scottish Cup final against Inverness CT. Thus, a historic treble is still up for grabs for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
