Celtic player could leave despite having great season
Celtic have a stacked squad right now, which they have built up over the four transfer windows during the time of Ange Postecoglou at the club. It also means though that there are some players who have struggled for regular playing time and a few have been sent out on loan. And some have even made quite an impression while away from Parkhead.
One who seems to fall under that category is Liam Scales. He was signed from Shamrock Rovers but did not make much of an impression during his first season at Parkhead. As a result, he was sent out on loan to Aberdeen in the summer.
Scales has established himself as a starter with the Dons and put up some great performances this season. As a result, many have wondered whether he will get a chance in the first-team at Celtic next season.
But at the moment, it looks like those decisions have not been taken and Scales’ future is up in the air. As reported by Glasgow Times, Postecoglou said:
"“We’ll wait until the summer. It’s good to see Liam doing so well at Aberdeen.“When you put guys out on loan you hope they get good experience and make an impact. Liam has done that and I know Barry Robson and the club have been really happy with him.“But those decisions will be made at the end of the year. We’ll see what’s best for him and the club. The guys will all need some sort of clarity moving forward. We will look at them all on an individual basis. We’ll get to that when the time is right.”"
Celtic player could leave despite having great season
Celtic have done a wonderful job at signing players in recent times. And during his time at Aberdeen, Scales has also shown that he can be a success in the Premiership.
At the same time though, if he was brought back, would he have enough of a role in the first-team or would he find himself sitting on the bench for the majority of the time once again? This is a question that needs to be answered before making a decision on the future of Scales this summer.
Stephen Welsh could be headed for the exit door this summer, and so there might be a gap for Scales to fill in the squad. But then, Celtic have been linked with Xavier Mbuyamba recently.
