Given the Rangers’ record in recent Glasgow derbies, the result in the recent one was a surprise. They defeated Celtic by a 3-0 scoreline at Ibrox. The Hoops’ fans though have been reflective on the game given that the Premiership title was already sealed and another treble remains in their sight.

There were lots of team changes on both sides, but in particular the Celtic back four didn’t have their usual strength and were relying on players like Yuki Kobayashi and Alexandro Bernabei, both relatively inexperienced at Parkhead. As was the case up front where Oh Hyeon-gyu stepped into Kyogo Furuhashi’s position from the start.

All those factors certainly played a part in the uninspiring display and the heavy defeat for Celtic away at Ibrox. The result might not sit well with the fans but in the grand scheme of things, this game might not mean a lot.

As reported by Football Scotland, Rory Loy told BBC Sportsound:

"“Rangers were good, but when I say it’s hard to analyse (it’s because) Celtic made changes. It’s going to sound like a ridiculous comment but in my opinion it’s true – I don’t think Ange Postecoglou’s priority was to win the game.”"

Pundit makes questionable claim about Celtic’s loss to Rangers

Loy is a former Rangers player, he also spent time playing for Falkirk, but despite his past allegiance he did play down his old club’s win.

Clearly a win was less important than if there was a need for more points to secure the title. But if you look at the boss being interviewed both before and after the game, it’s pretty clear he wasn’t up for accepting a loss. Sure he admitted he perhaps made too many selection changes, but his usual desire to win was obvious.

At the end of the day, every Glasgow Derby is important and Postecoglou will know that. He also does not seem like someone who would be open to the idea of his side losing a game, no matter what is or is not riding on the result.
