Celtic suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Rangers away at Ibrox. One of the key reasons behind that was the absence of Cameron Carter-Vickers in the heart of the Hoops’ defence. The United States international has undergone surgery recently and is not going to return to the pitch this season.
That is a blow for Celtic, as Carter-Vickers has arguably been their player of the season. Of course, the League Cup and the Premiership are already won.
They still have the Scottish Cup final to deal with though. Celtic will meet Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Hampden Park next month, with the treble up for grabs. Carter-Vickers will only be able to watch from the stands on the occasion though.
There is some very positive news on his recovery from surgery from the man himself, as it looks like he is hoping to return to the pitch as soon as possible. As reported by Football Scotland, while speaking to CBS Sports, Carter-Vickers said:
"“The knee is as good as it can be, I got surgery last week.“I’m just rehabbing from that and it’s still early days so it’s hard to put a timeline on it at the moment. But I’m positive about it and I’m sure I’ll be back as soon as possible.”"
Celtic player delivers great news on American television
Carter-Vickers is a very important part of this Celtic team to say the very least. And it is incredible how well he was able to perform even while playing through an injury for a large part of the campaign.
His last performance was immense, against the Rangers nonetheless. And it is very clear that Celtic have a very special player on their hands.
Hopefully, he will remain at the club for as long as possible. Because he is very important to their success. Celtic have not looked like the same team without Carter-Vickers recently and it does not feel like they would have lost by a 3-0 scoreline, if he had been at the back at Ibrox this weekend.
One can only hope that Carter-Vickers recovers well and returns to full fitness as soon as possible. We will be looking forward to seeing him back.
