Celtic have rarely made transfer mistakes during the time of Ange Postecoglou as manager. But considering the sheer number of players who have been brought in over the course of the past four windows, some are expected to struggle at Parkhead. That is just the nature of the game and nothing can be done about it.
One player who has certainly not had a great time at Celtic Park till now is Alexandro Bernabei. He was signed in the summer from Lanus for a transfer fee believed to be around £3.75 million.
In the process, he became the first Argentine player in Celtic history. But till now, Bernabei is yet to deliver on the hype surrounding him.
By now, most fans would have expected him to be challenging Greg Taylor for the starting spot. That has not been the case. And his performance against the Rangers has raised further questions about his ability to be a key player for Celtic in the future.
Celtic summer signing looks like a transfer mistake
For years, Celtic fans wanted the club to bring in a new left-back. And yet, it is Taylor, who was signed back in the summer of 2019, who has stepped up to the plate.
On the other hand, Bernabei has failed to deliver since becoming a Celtic player. He has shown flashes of quality here and there, but overall, he has not done nearly enough to be considered as a transfer success story.
It remains to be seen if he improves in the future or not. The club have not been reluctant to let players go in recent times though, if things don’t work out.
Of course, it would be a mistake to pinpoint Bernabei for Celtic’s 3-0 loss to the Rangers at Ibrox. Almost everybody struggled on the day. But over the course of the season, the Argentine simply has not shown enough progress to excite fans.
