The final Glasgow Derby of the season held very little significance for Celtic in terms of the bigger picture. They had already won the league title coming into Ibrox. Unfortunately, it showed in their performance as well. On top of that, they were missing several key players too and were handed a 3-0 defeat by Michael Beale’s side.

Of course, no Glasgow Derby is meaningless. There is always pride at stake and in that regard, the fans will certainly have been left very disappointed with a 3-0 defeat against their rivals.

It is important to take a look at the bigger picture though. The club still have a Scottish Cup final to play against Inverness Caledonian Thistle and it would be a mistake to risk players in the remaining league games. Thus, Ange Postecoglou’s rotation was a sensible decision even though the result might not have gone according to expectation.

Chris Sutton is not one to miss a chance to take a dig at the Rangers. And he did so even though they won 3-0 in the Glasgow Derby. The Celtic hero tweeted out:

Celtic hero takes dig at Rangers after Glasgow Derby win

Losing a Glasgow Derby always hurts, no matter what the circumstances. But if they could afford to lose one, this was that game.

Celtic still have a Scottish Cup final to look forward to, as well as the title celebrations at the end of the season. On the other hand, the Rangers are confirmed to end this campaign trophyless. Thus, this result is mere consolation for their supporters at best.

The Hoops must learn from this result. This performance cannot be repeated next season. And things might be a lot closer than they were this time around. In many ways, fans will be hoping that this is a bit of a wake up call.
