Celtic hero announced as new manager of Scottish club
It is always interesting to see how former Celtic players do after their careers on the pitch come to an end. There are quite a few who go into management. It is not an easy job to be a top level manager though, although that has not stopped people from coaching. And one former club hero has made his return to Scottish football recently.
David Hannah was part of the heroic Celtic side that stopped Rangers from winning 10 in a row in the memorable 1997/98 season. He also won the League Cup with the Hoops.
Hannah might not have had a starring role in that team. But it is clear that he was a part of Wim Jansen’s plans and certainly played his part in that important campaign in the club’s history. While many fans questioned his ability, there was no question about his efforts.
Hannah would spend a couple of years at Celtic before making a return to Dundee United. Over his two stints there, he did win a Scottish Cup there as well.

Hannah has had an interesting career in management as well, despite never reaching the top level. He has coached all over the world for teams like University of Dundee, Einherji, West Ottawa, Brams United, Waterloo United, PS Kemi, Ottawa South United and Halifax Dunbrack.
He is now finally back in Scottish football. As reported by Penicuik Athletic’s official website, Hannah has been appointed as the new manager of the club.
This is not a headline grabbing move by any means. After all, Penicuik Athletic play in the East of Scotland Football League Premier Division. Yet, it does give Celtic fans a chance to remember one of the forgotten members of the team that stopped Rangers from winning 10 in a row.
