Most of the time under the management of Ange Postecoglou, Celtic have not played with a defensive midfielder in the starting XI. It had looked as if the signing on loan of Oliver Abildgaard last summer might have changed that, but the player didn’t feature often and after falling behind others in the pecking order, the deal was cut short in January.

Of course, we also saw Tomoki Iwata signed in January and the Japanese player has proven to be a defensive midfield option in his few months so far. But more cover in that role looks necessary, especially with another Champions League group stage campaign coming up and undoubtedly some huge name clubs to face in the competition.

As reported by Blick (via Sport Witness), Celtic are ‘above all’ in terms of clubs showing an interest in Ardon Jashari. He is likely to leave Luzern this summer for a transfer fee between €6 million and €8 million.

Jashari is a very promising defensive midfielder. He is currently 20 years of age and he plays for with FC Luzern in the Swiss Super League.

Jashari has played at Swiss U21 level but made his full national debut last September and was part of their 2022 World Cup squad. He didn’t feature much, but it must have been an invaluable experience.

The player is already building good experience and attracting much interest. Celtic were interested in December too and are now reported to be ‘above all’ clubs so far in what looks likely to be strong competition to sign Jashari.

Let’s see what the future holds for Jashari. He is certainly a player with the world of potential and could be a great addition to this Celtic team, if they club are able to bring him.
