Celtic have made a number of great signings in recent times. One of them was the decision to bring in Liel Abada in the summer of 2021. He was only a teenager at that point of time but did not take long to establish himself in Ange Postecoglou’s side. During his first few months at Parkhead, he was the Hoops’ best player.
Of course, things have settled in since then. Abada has continued to play a part in Postecoglou’s team but has struggled for starts lately.
Jota and Daizen Maeda are clearly ahead of Abada in the pecking order right now. And a lot of players would struggle to get ahead of them based on current form.
This has led to rumours though that Abada could be on his way out of Parkhead in the summer in search of playing time. On the other hand, there seems to be no lack of interest in his signature either. Premier League clubs are rumoured to be keeping an eye on the winger, as are the likes of Benfica and Ajax.
Abada sends clear message amid Celtic exit concerns
Understandably, fans are concerned that Abada could leave the club in the summer. But the Israeli international has sent a clear message about his situation at Parkhead.
As reported by Football Scotland, Abada said:
"“I don’t care about what the newspapers or media says, I just care about how to improve every day, how to get better for the team, how to give 100 per cent.“I am focused on getting the three trophies and this is the most important thing now.“I am really happy at Celtic. Everyone looks after me and tries to help me get better. My relationships with the players and staff is very good. So I am really happy here. There is no rush. I have time. Right now we just focus to finish the season strong and this is the most important thing.“When you play at a club like Celtic, there are a lot of great players, you have a lot of competition. But I am still young and I want to work hard every training session, every game, and help the team get our targets. It is the coach’s decision and, when the gaffer tells me I need to play, I will do the best for the team and try to get our target and this is the most important thing.”"
It is worth remembering that Abada is still just 21 years of age. Thus, he has plenty of time on his hands to develop further, get better and perhaps even play his way into the starting XI at Celtic in the future.
Even though he might not be starting on a regular basis, Abada has been an important part of the club’s success. Postecoglou has used the Israeli international mostly as an impact substitute and the youngster has not disappointed. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 12 goals and provided 7 assists in 42 appearances this season till now.
