Celtic have a brilliant striker in their ranks right now in the form off Kyogo Furuhashi. The Japanese forward scored his 30th goal of the season against Hearts at the weekend and 50th overall for the Hoops. On the other hand, the club also signed Oh Hyeon-gyu in January from Suwon Samsung Bluewings.
Oh might not be a starter right now, but he has certainly been making a contribution off the bench. The South Korean striker brings something different to the table compared to Kyogo and at 22 years of age, he has plenty of room to develop further.
Those are Celtic’s only two options at striker though. It is certainly not an area where they have a lot of depth. So, they could do with another forward and Anastasios Douvikas seems to have caught their eye. And Vasilis Barkas could have a part to play in any potential move.
As reported by The Scottish Sun, reports in the Netherlands have linked Celtic with Douvikas. An FC Utrecht transfer insider has suggested Barkas could stay with the club as part of the deal taking the Greek striker to Parkhead.
Celtic want to sign Eredivisie top scorer this summer
Douvikas is currently the leading goalscorer in the Eredivisie this season along with Sydney van Hooijdonk, with 16 goals to his name. Xavi Simons is third.
Of course, if Celtic are able to sign Douvikas, he would not be the first Greek striker that the club have brought in from the Eredivisie during the time of Ange Postecoglou as manager. The last one was Giorgos Giakoumakis and he did a very good job for the Hoops before moving to the MLS earlier this year.
Signing a third striker might be the right step for Celtic, considering they have another Champions League group stage coming up as well. And let’s also see what the future holds for Kyogo in the summer.
