With a 2-0 win over Hearts away at Tynecastle Park, Celtic were crowned the champions of Scotland for the second straight year. They did it with four games to spare. Nobody could have seen this coming, when Ange Postecoglou had arrived as the manager of the club in the summer of 2021 in the worst possible circumstances.

The club had finished trophyless and 25 points behind the Rangers in the league in the previous campaign. Also, for months, it had looked like they were chasing the signature of Eddie Howe and Postecoglou was brought in when that did not work out.

Many fans were not happy with the appointment of Postecoglou. And yet, two years on, and the same people must be hoping that he does not leave anytime in the near future.

This season, Celtic have been near perfect in domestic competitions, only losing one game till now. And if they can win their remaining league games, they will set the record for most points in a campaign, breaking the one set by Brendan Rodgers’ Invincible side.

Rodgers claim made after Celtic’s league win

As reported by Glasgow Times, Kris Commons wrote in the Daily Mail:

"“Just a few years ago, I reckon a lot of Celtic fans would have marvelled at the football played by Brendan Rodgers’ side and felt like they might never see the like again.“Rodgers’ Invincibles racked up 106 points and scored 106 goals. But if Postecoglou’s side win their remaining four games, they will actually beat that total by reaching 107 points.“They will also beat the goals tally of Rodgers’ team given that they are already on 105 with four games still to play.“I’ve been banging this drum all season. I genuinely believe this is actually a better and more exciting team than we saw under Rodgers – and that’s a high benchmark to beat.“Postecoglou has now established himself as the single most important person at the football club. He is a manager who is revered by his players and worshipped by the fans.”"

One could certainly argue that this team is better than the Invincibles, especially if they end up breaking their points and goals record. Of course, there is still quite a bit of work to be done in that regard. They have four league games left, with one of them being away at Ibrox.

The focus cannot be on records though. A treble is still up for grabs and winning that has to be the most important thing. They will take on Inverness CT in the final next month. Of course, Celtic will be the favourites in that game, but they cannot make the mistake of taking the opposition or the occasion lightly.
