Celtic have been home to some great players over the years and it is always interesting to see the path that their careers take, after departing Parkhead. It is not uncommon to see quite a few of them fail to enjoy the same level of success elsewhere. On the other hand, there are also those who step up to the plate and overdeliver on expectations.
In the modern era, Virgil van Dijk is someone that most Celtic players should try to emulate, as they get ready to leave the club. And there are a couple of former club starters, who could make their presence felt in the upcoming summer transfer window.
One of them is Jeremie Frimpong. The Dutch full-back left in January of 2021 in order to join Bayer Leverkusen and has had a great time there. So much so that he is being linked with a move to some of the best teams in the world.
As reported by Okdiario, Frimpong is in the orbit of Real Madrid, who are looking for a competitor and replacement for Dani Carvajal. The Dutchman has drawn the interest of several top European clubs.
Former Celtic player linked with move to Real Madrid
It is not hard to see why there is so much interest in the signature of Frimpong. He has performed at a high level since joining Bayer Leverkusen and is one of the brightest young talents in the Bundesliga.
At 22 years of age, there are certainly areas of his game where Frimpong could improve. But overall, there is no doubt that he is a big talent, who seems to be on the verge of getting a big move.
It remains to be seen if Frimpong will end up at a club like Real Madrid. Celtic do have a sell-on clause though.
