Ange Postecoglou has done an incredible job since arriving at Celtic Park. When the Australian was appointed, there were a lot of doubts about the decision and understandably so. He had never managed a top flight club in Europe and the Hoops were not in a good position at that point of time either. They were coming off of the nightmare 2020/21 campaign and several of their key players were leaving that summer.
It is hard to think of a manager who could have done a better job than Postecoglou. He successfully oversaw a complete squad rebuild while also keeping them a winning team throughout.
Celtic won a Premiership and League Cup double last season against all odds and expectations. And this time around, they are closing in on a treble. They just need one more win in the league and are in the Scottish Cup final, where they will be taking on Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
That is a remarkable achievement. Especially for someone like Postecoglou, who never got a chance to manage at the top level in Europe till his mid-50s. And it is quite clear that he appreciates what he has built at Celtic.
Postecoglou sends emotional message to Celtic fans
As reported by the Daily Record, Postecoglou said:
"“I don’t take that for granted either, the way the supporters have got behind this team, and by extension got behind me.“Not just this year, but from the beginning of last year has been truly special. I felt they have embraced me and willed me to have the success we have had.“They want me to be successful because it means their football club is successful. Not just me, the way this football club has embraced my whole family, particularly the supporters, it is truly special.“Days like last Sunday, you want to capture it as much as possible. It is the reason, apart from being slow, I take my time going around the field.“I don’t want to miss that, miss that moment, because one day it will be gone and I don’t want it to be something cloudy in my thought space, I want it to be clear. I love the way the support has not only embraced me, but this team. It’s been a great journey and I hope there will be some memorable times ahead.”"
Postecoglou is not someone who shows his emotions on the pitch often. But he did seem more animated than usual, while celebrating with the fans after Celtic’s win over the Rangers at Hampden Park in the Scottish Cup semi-final.
Also, those do not sound like the words of a manager who is actively seeking an exit from the club. He has been heavily linked with a move away from Parkhead for months, with several Premier League teams rumoured to be interested. But it sounds like he is looking forward to what lies ahead at Celtic.
