Celtic have been dealing with injury problems in recent times. Thus, the players and the coaching staff deserve a lot of credit for how well they have done over the past weeks and months, despite of all the hurdles. Now, it is just about getting over the finish line. The club need just one more win in the league and of course there is the Scottish Cup final against Inverness Caledonian Thistle next month.

One player who is believed to have been playing with an injury for a while is Cameron Carter-Vickers. And his season came to an end following last weekend’s win over the Rangers, in which he put in an incredible performance.

With the regular starter at centre-back out for the rest of the season, it could open up opportunities for others. Especially those like Stephen Welsh, who has barely played in recent times. But the defender has picked up a knock at the worst possible time.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Ange Postecoglou said while speaking in a media conference on Celtic’s YouTube channel:

"“The only new one is Stephen Welsh – he picked up a knock at training so he’s not available for this weekend.”"

It goes without saying that Welsh’s knock has come at the wrong time for him. One can only hope that it is nothing serious and that he is back available as soon as possible.

Of course, Carl Starfelt and Yuki Kobayashi are expected to be the starting duo in the heart of defence in the absence of Carter-Vickers. But Welsh could have expected some minutes over the last games of the season, especially if Celtic are able to clinch the title against Hearts.

Let’s see how things play out for Welsh moving forward. The Scot is expected to depart the club in the summer though, as his chances of becoming a regular starter at Parkhead look slim.
