Celtic want to sign Liverpool midfielder this summer

Celtic have shown an incredible eye for picking out talent in recent times. They have also spread their scouting network further and wider during the time of Ange Postecoglou as the manager of the club. But it looks like one of their summer targets already plays in the Scottish Premiership albeit on loan from Liverpool.

Celtic have a stacked midfield department at this point of time. But then again, there is the possibility that some players could head out in the summer. On the other hand, the club must also have an eye on continuously improving.

One of the players who seems to have caught Celtic’s attention recently is Leighton Clarkson. He is currently on loan at Aberdeen from Liverpool.

As reported by Football Insider, Celtic and Rangers are ready to vie with Aberdeen for the signature of Clarkson this summer. The Dons are determined to make the move permanent in the off-season.

Clarkson has been a key player for Aberdeen this season as they have made a remarkable turnaround that nobody could have seen coming. Not too long ago, it was looking like the Dons could get caught up in a relegation struggle. But now, they sit third in the league table going into the post-split fixtures.

That is incredible to say the least. And the 21-year-old Liverpool loanee has certainly played his part in the middle of the park. So much so that he has caught the eye of both Celtic and the Rangers.

Now, it remains to be seen if a summer move is on the cards or not. Clarkson has impressed on loan but still, it is hard to see that win him a place in the Liverpool team. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 5 goals and provided 8 assists in 33 appearances for Aberdeen this season till now.
