Celtic have a huge game coming up against Inverness Caledonian Thistle next month, in the final of the Scottish Cup at Hampden Park. The Hoops look almost certain to win the Premiership from here, as they need just one more league win to be crowned champions of Scotland again. As a result, when they take on the Championship club, it looks like a treble will be up for grabs.
It is safe to say that Inverness CT have done an incredible job, reaching the final of the Scottish Cup. But on that day, Celtic would have to be considered as the favourites.
It must be pointed out that Celtic cannot make the mistake of taking Inverness CT lightly just because they play in the Championship. Anything can happen in a one-off game. Thus, the Hoops must bring their A-game to Hampden Park on the day.
There has been some controversy regarding the timing of the Scottish Cup though, as kick-off has been moved from its traditional 3 PM slot. And Celtic do not seem to be happy with the decision.
Celtic release statement about Scottish FA’s decision
A statement released on Celtic’s official website read:
"“We are hugely disappointed that the Scottish Cup Final has been moved from its traditional 3pm slot, something we don’t believe was necessary, or in the best interests of both sets of supporters.“Additionally, there was no meaningful consultation with Celtic on this matter, in terms of assessing the many issues affecting supporters attending the match – something which is also extremely regrettable.”"
Traditionally, the Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park has a 3 PM kick-off. But on this occasion, that has been moved to 5.30 PM.
It is believed that it has been done in order to avoid it starting at the same time as the FA Cup final. It will be played between the two Manchester teams and is in big demand for sure.
Thus, while one can see why the decision was made, there should have been more consultations with the teams playing the big game. But at the end of the day, Celtic cannot allow these things to be distractions. They have a final to win, no matter when the kick-off time is.
