Even a few months ago, Michael Beale could do no wrong in the eyes of the Rangers fans. The Englishman finds himself in a very different position right now though. His side have lost three of their four games against Celtic till now, drawing the other one. And they seem destined to finish the campaign without a single piece of silverware.
As a result, questions are being already raised about the Rangers manager, as we head towards the end of the campaign. On the other hand, Celtic are on the verge of a treble.
Now, there might be a genuine chance that the Rangers fans could turn on Beale. In fact, if you take a look at social media, some already have after seeing their side suffer three straight defeats in the Glasgow Derby.
Frank McAvennie appears to believe that the Rangers fans have “turned against” Beale after Sunday’s Scottish Cup exit. As reported by Football Insider, the former Celtic player said:
"“The fans will not accept any more excuses.“I would like to see a manager come out and say that they are closing the gap instead of making all these excuses that we have heard before.“I think the Rangers supporters will have turned against the manager after that [defeat]. He will know the pressure of being a Rangers manager now.”"
Celtic hero sends message to Beale he should be afraid of
We all saw how things turned out for Giovanni van Bronckhorst at Ibrox. He had guided them to Scottish Cup triumph and a place in the Europa League final last season. The Dutchman had played for them. He also had a good track record in management.
And yet, it did not take long for him to be shown the exit door, when things went south. Beale does not have any of that. The only thing he has is a reputation for being a part of Steven Gerrard’s coaching team when the Rangers won the league.
As a result, Beale should be pretty worried about the current situation. There is still one Glasgow Derby left to be played this season, in the league at Ibrox. And if the Rangers fail to win that as well, the manager will be under some real pressure indeed.
