Rangers’ Todd Cantwell slammed for incident vs Celtic
Celtic will have been delighted to get another win over the Rangers, this time to book their place in the Scottish Cup final. A goal from Jota proved to be the difference on the day. The Hoops have now won four of their five games against the Ibrox club in the ongoing campaign, drawing the remaining one. Of course, as is the case with every Glasgow Derby, the microscope was on more than just the action on the pitch.
It has not been long since Todd Cantwell has arrived at Ibrox. But he is already building up a reputation for himself and it would be safe to say that his actions in the recent Glasgow Derby would not have made him popular amongst the Celtic fans.
With a break in play, Reo Hatate tried to grab a bottle of water, while a Rangers player was receiving treatment. But Cantwell appeared to take the bag and keep it out of the Celtic player’s reach.
Hatate seemed bemused at the incident. And ultimately, he was able to grab a bottle of water with the approval of Alfredo Morelos and James Tavernier, who were also there.
Cantwell slammed for incident vs Celtic
It is safe to say that Celtic fans were not happy with the incident, and it was branded ‘bad sportsmanship’ on the part of Cantwell.
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Chris Sutton replied to a tweet:
"“Harsh on TC.“In fairness to Todd he needed to make sure there was sufficient water saved to make his hair look good…”"
A typical sarcastic reply from the Celtic hero as one would expect. But it was an incident that was certainly heavily criticised on social media.
It certainly did Cantwell no favours. He had already received quite a bit of criticism after the previous Glasgow Derby for his take on the match. For a player who arrived only in January, the former Norwich City star has already made himself a talking point in the Glasgow Derby, but for the wrong reasons.
