Celtic boss addresses Kyogo Furuhashi exit concerns
Kyogo Furuhashi has been an absolute superstar since joining Celtic in the summer of 2021 from Vissel Kobe. Many had raised eyebrows at the time about whether the Japanese player would be able to deal with the physicality of the Scottish top flight or not. In reality, it is the Premiership that has had trouble dealing with the brilliance of the forward.
Kyogo has almost scored for fun during his time at Celtic. And he is a man for the big moment as well, scoring a brace in each of his League Cup final appearances, guiding the Hoops to silverware on both occasions.
Kyogo’s numbers in a Celtic shirt have been superb to say the least. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 49 goals and provided 10 assists in 76 appearances and 4975 minutes of football for the Hoops till now.
Of course, that kind of form has seen him being linked with a move away from Parkhead in the future. Ange Postecoglou has given his take on the matter.
Celtic boss addresses Kyogo exit concerns
As reported by The Scotsman, Postecoglou said regarding Kyogo:
"“I know what Kyogo is like.“If he is thinking about anything other than Sunday I would be very very surprised. And that’s the way we’ve got to do things. As I’ve said all along, my role in that is to keep preparing this team and those players to be the best they can be. Whatever comes along, you deal with it and you use it as an opportunity to continue what you have started. I don’t think about whether players will be here or not be here, what I look at is that they are here right now. And as long as they are here – and the hope is they are here for a very long time – I will push them to be the best they can be and they will get the most out of their football career. Kyogo is certainly one of those.”"
There have been suggestions that clubs like Crystal Palace and Southampton are interested in making a move for Kyogo in the future. On the other hand, Celtic are rumoured to rate him at a transfer fee north of £15 million. Considering how good he has been, even that appears to be on the low end to be very honest.
At the end of the day, Kyogo might have a big decision to make as well. He could look for a move to the Premier League. Or he could stay on at Celtic, where he has the chance to be an absolute club legend. It remains to be seen what the future holds but for now, the focus has to be on the task at hand.
