Celtic player must leave this summer after terrible season
Celtic have exceptional depth in their squad at this point of time and that has been one of the biggest reasons why they have found so much success during the time of Ange Postecoglou as the manager of the club. But at the same time, having plenty of options has meant that there have been quite a few players who have been completely lost in the shuffle.
One such player is Stephen Welsh. There were high hopes surrounding him while coming through the youth ranks and he has played a bit of football for the senior team as well.
But as things stand, it is quite clear that he is not a big part in Postecoglou’s plans. And thus, it might be time for him to leave the club. At 23 years of age, he needs to be playing much more regularly in order to continue his development.
At the moment, he simply is not playing anywhere near enough. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Welsh has only made 6 appearances this season till now and played 506 minutes of football in total.
Celtic player must leave this summer after terrible season
There is no question that Welsh is a talented player. But at the moment, he simply does not have the consistency to be a regular starter for Celtic.
There are the likes of Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers, as the regular starters in the heart of defence. And Yuki Kobayashi seems to be ahead of Welsh after arriving in January as well.
Thus, a move away in the summer appears to be the best step for all parties involved. It will be sad to see a player, who came through the ranks at Celtic, leave. But at the end of the day, it does not feel like he will be able to establish himself as a key player at Parkhead.
