Celtic tipped to be disappointed with transfer news
Celtic have had a great time when it comes to transfers in recent times. Over the past couple of windows, the club have brought in a number of players who have achieved success at Parkhead. That is one of the biggest reasons why the Hoops have already won three trophies under the management of Ange Postecoglou and more seem to be on the way.
Of course, not everything can go the way of the club. And they were handed some bad news for Celtic, as it looks like Moussa Dembele will be leaving Lyon as a free agent in the summer.
Dembele had left Celtic in order to join Lyon. And the Hoops were believed to have a sell-on clause in the deal. When he was performing at his best for the French club, that could’ve represented a significant figure. But now, it appears that he will be moving on as a free agent instead.
Thus, it would not be a surprise if Celtic are disappointed with how things have turned out. As reported by Football Insider, Alan Hutton said:
"“Missing out on any sort of money for a player is disappointing.“When you let contracts run down, we have seen it with Kent, Morelos, players that could have gone for big numbers. It is not ideal.“Dembele showed a lot of promise, he is an outstanding footballer, he had a great move that has probably not worked out the way you want it to.“From a Celtic position you want players to kick on but it has obviously not quite worked. It will be interesting to see where he goes from here, if he can get back to the heights that he showed. But it has just not quite worked.“"
Celtic tipped to be disappointed with transfer news
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Dembele. He had an up and down time at Lyon for sure, but when he was performing, he was one of the best strikers in Ligue 1.
Thus, there is not expected to be any lack of options for Dembele when he makes the move in the summer. And it is more than likely that he will end up at a good club. The Frenchman could potentially even end up in the Premier League.
Of course, Celtic won’t get a sell-on fee out of it. But all they can do is wish Dembele the best of luck in whatever next step that he takes in his career.
