Both Celtic and the Rangers had a weekend to forget. The Hoops could only manage a 1-1 draw against Motherwell. That was seen as a disappointing result by the fans, especially ahead of the important Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden Park later this month. But then, Michael Beale’s side went on to lose 2-0 to Aberdeen.

Thus, neither side will enter the Scottish Cup semi-final on the back of a win. Form often goes out of the window in games like this though.

Celtic have not been at their best in recent weeks. A lot of that has had to do with the Hoops missing key players. One would be hoping that they recover in time to feature against the Rangers at Hampden Park, and that Ange Postecoglou’s team bring their A-game on the day.

While the players’ performance on the day will be very important, it will also be very interesting to see how the referee and the officials do as well. They could end up playing a prominent role in the game.

As reported by the Scottish FA website, William Collum will be the referee for the Scottish Cup semi-final between Celtic and the Rangers. He will be joined by Daniel McFarlane, Dougie Potter and fourth official Don Robertson. Steven McLean will be the VAR and Frank Connor the AVAR.

The one thing that Celtic will be hoping for next weekend is that there are no controversial or questionable decisions on the part of the referee or VAR. A game played straight down the middle would be the best for everyone.

It is worth pointing out ahead of the game that Celtic have not lost a Glasgow Derby this season. If they can continue that run, then a treble would be a very real possibility.
