Celtic are heading towards a very interesting summer transfer window. Over the past couple of seasons, the club have been completely focused on strengthening their squad, even though we seen the likes of Giorgos Giakoumakis and Josip Juranovic leave as well. This time around, a lot more of their players are being linked with moves away from Parkhead though.
It is not hard to see why. They have been brilliant over the past couple of campaigns, already winning three trophies while another Premiership looks almost certain and the Scottish Cup is up for grabs as well.
One Celtic player who has been linked with a move away for quite some time now is Matt O’Riley. The midfielder was brought in from MK Dons in January of last year and has done a tremendous job.
For a while this season, it had looked like he had lost his place in the starting XI to Aaron Mooy, but O’Riley has bounced back well since then. As a result, it is no surprise that he is being linked with a summer exit.
Celtic don’t want to let key player go despite exit rumours
As reported by GIVEMESPORT, journalist Pete O’Rourke said:
"“Celtic are not considering selling him right now. But as we all know, these big Scottish clubs will struggle to compete with other top European clubs when it comes down to transfer fees and also when it comes down to contract offers as well.”"
Thus, it looks like Celtic will be looking to keep O’Riley at Parkhead beyond this season. And he still has a lot of potential that is untapped. At the same time though, one cannot deny that the situation could change if a huge transfer bid did arrive on the table.
O’Riley has been linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe in the past, like Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund along with several others. Now, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the youngster. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 4 goals and provided 12 assists in 45 appearances this season till now.
