When Celtic dropped points against Motherwell with a 1-1 draw this weekend, not many would have thought that that would actually end up extending their lead. But here we are, 13 points in front of the Rangers in the title race, after Michael Beale’s side ended up losing 2-0 to Aberdeen. And the result comes right before the two Glasgow giants face each other in the upcoming Scottish Cup semi-final.

Celtic had lost the same fixture last time around and will surely be looking to rectify that. On the other hand, this will be the Rangers’ last chance of winning some silverware this season. So, a lot is riding on this game for both teams.

After Celtic’s result against Motherwell, a lot of Rangers supporters seemed to have gained a lot of confidence regarding their chances in next weekend’s Scottish Cup semi-finals. But it would be safe to say that the overall mood around Ibrox has changed now, that they have seen their side lose to Aberdeen.

The Rangers supporters did not seem amused and let it be known on Twitter:

Of course this result will not mean a lot when it comes to the league title race. That was pretty much over for all intents and purposes before a ball was kicked this weekend.

But this result does hand a blow to the Rangers before such an important match for their campaign. At the same time, it hands the momentum back to Celtic, if they had lost any after yesterday.

The Scottish Cup semi-final will be a completely different game though. And Celtic will have to make sure that they bring their A-game to Hampden Park. Their recent performances have been shaky too. On the other hand, fans will be hoping that the likes of Reo Hatate, Jota and Liel Abada are fit to feature on the day.
