Celtic are set to welcome Motherwell to Parkhead for the final game of the first phase of the Scottish Premiership campaign. At this point of time, it looks like just two more wins would be enough to crown the Hoops as champions of Scotland once again. And Stuart Kettlewell seems to have blown away by the quality of Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Celtic currently sit twelve points ahead of the Rangers in the title race, with just six more league games to be played. To be honest, Michael Beale’s side seem to be headed for a 90-plus point season themselves. And yet, they might not get anywhere near the Hoops.
That is just how good Postecoglou’s side have been all season. They have just drawn and lost one game each, and if they can finish the campaign off in style, a number of all-time records seem within reach.
Kettlewell certainly appears to have been impressed with what he has seen from Celtic. As reported by the Daily Record, the Motherwell manager said:
"“I think this is one of the best sides the Scottish Premiership has seen for several years.“I’m a massive Scottish football fan, I have been my entire life, and I think you would pitch this team up there with many other excellent sides.“We look at Celtic and Rangers sides that have got to European finals, and I would pitch this side right up there with those.“It’s one thing to be a good side but it’s another to continually do that throughout 90 minutes, and the full course of a season and cup competitions as well.“That then becomes a huge challenge for the teams that have to face Celtic.“What my job is, is to make sure that our players respond to that and they’re well equipped to face it.”"
Motherwell boss makes sensational claim about Celtic
Celtic are still in contention for a treble this season. They have already won the League Cup. If something completely unexpected does not happen, the Premiership also seems to be destined to end up at Parkhead once again. And they will be taking on the Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi-final this month.
That might very well be their biggest game remaining this season. They lost the same fixture last time around, and Postecoglou’s side will surely be looking to rectify that in their next trip to Hampden Park.
It goes without saying that this is one of the best teams ever assembled in Scottish football. And the fact that it was done over the course of just two years, after the terrible 2020/21 campaign, is even more impressive.
