Celtic have spread their scouting network further and wider since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager. They have reaped the benefits as well, as several players have come in to establish themselves as household names at the club. And it does feel like things will continue in this manner, with the recruitment team that has been put in place.
One of the players that Celtic signed in the January transfer window was Oh Hyeon-gyu. The South Korean striker was brought in from Suwon Samsung Bluewings, even though the Hoops had been linked with international teammate, Cho Gue-sung for weeks.
Oh has been mostly restricted to a role off the bench since his arrival at Celtic Park. He has impressed in the chances that he has been given though and might have a bright future ahead of him at Parkhead.
German legend and current South Korean national team coach, Jurgen Klinsmann, took in the game between Celtic and Kilmarnock today. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, in an interview Sky Sports, when asked if he thought that a move to Scotland would help Oh’s international career, he said:
"“Absolutely. I mean, if you have the opportunity to play for a club like Celtic, a massive club like Celtic, it is not easy for young players. Obviously, he’s fighting for minutes, but it’s a big learning curve.”"
German World Cup winner makes sensational Celtic claim
Klinsmann was a brilliant player in his day and won the World Cup as well as the EURO while representing the German national team. He has carved out a good career in management as well, and most of his roles have come at the international level.
It does seem like there are high hopes surrounding the future of Oh and he is viewed by many as the future of the South Korean national team. Of course, a lot of that will depend on how he performs and develops at Celtic.
It is important to give him time to find his feet and adjust as well though. Ultimately, Oh is just 21 years of age, getting his first taste of football in Europe.
