Ronny Deila was the manager of Celtic for a couple of seasons. During that period of time, he won three trophies with the club, including a couple of league titles. His time at Parkhead is not considered as a grand success though. Since leaving Parkhead, he has rebuilt his managerial career though.
Deila would leave Celtic and then join Norwegian club, Valerenga. From there, he would head to New York City FC, where he did find some success. And that saw him make his return to European football, as he ended up at Belgian club, Standard Liege.
Deila seems to be enjoying his stint at Standard Liege a lot. And he was so impressed with the atmosphere at their home ground, Stade Maurice Dufrasne, recently that he felt that it even surpassed the storied Parkhead.
As reported by the Daily Record, Deila said:
"“What an atmosphere that was.“I was at Celtic…well this is better.”"
Celtic fans won’t be happy with Deila’s recent comments
It is safe to say that Celtic fans will not be too pleased with their former manager’s comments. And it is a controversial one for sure.
The Parkhead atmosphere is considered by many as the best in all of Europe. In the past, it has been praised by players like Lionel Messi, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Kaka and several more. And those players have clearly been involved in some huge games at some legendary venues through the course of their careers.
Of course, that is Deila’s personal experience of the matter and if he does feel that way then he can express it the way he wants. But it is safe to say that Celtic supporters will not agree with him.
After all, there is nothing quite like a Parkhead atmosphere under the lights, especially on European nights. That is something that needs to be experienced to be understood.
