One of the best signings that Celtic made in the summer was bringing in Aaron Mooy. Many had raised their eyebrows at the move. After all, he had been playing in China before this and had not featured a lot there either. Thus, many viewed this as a step in the sideward direction and not something that would improve the team.

Mooy has proven to be an excellent addition to the team though. After taking some time to find full fitness, he established himself as one of the best players in Scotland.

As a result, he moved ahead of Matt O’Riley in the pecking order as well and nailed down his place in the starting XI, before his recent fitness issues. Mooy has returned to action recently though and let’s see if he can rediscover his form.

On the other hand, Frank McAvennie appears to believe that Tomoki Iwata is ready to have a role in the starting XI. As reported by Football Insider, the former Celtic player said:

"“I think the manager is doing well, bringing him in and out but I think he is ready to flourish now.“As the manager said, there is more to come from him. He uses both feet, sprays the ball all over the place.“He is different from Hatate, where Hatate runs forward Iwata just sits and lets McGregor be in his normal position. I would love to see Iwata, Hatate and McGregor in the middle moving forward.“"

Iwata has looked class whenever he plays. He has the ability to hold onto the ball and appears to be someone who will only get better as he gets accustomed to the Scottish game. The fact that he also has the ability to play at centre-back makes him even more valuable to Celtic.

Of course, if Iwata does end up becoming a starter for Celtic, then that would also allow Callum McGregor to move a bit further up the pitch. That is what a lot of fans have wanted to see happen, to make the most of the captain’s abilities going forward as well.

Mooy has done a wonderful job till now though. Thus, Iwata will have his work cut out, if he wants to replace him.
