Celtic have been enjoying a lot of success this season. They have won the League Cup already and are leading the Premiership by twelve points with just seven league games left to be played. Thus, a double looks almost certain and a treble is still very much a possibility. The Hoops will be facing the Rangers in the semis of the Scottish Cup later this month.
Thus, it is safe to say that the fans will be delighted with the players. The future of a few of them is up in the air though, as they have been linked with moves away in the summer.
One who finds himself in an interesting position right now is Matt O’Riley. The Englishman made a superb start to life at Celtic after he joined in January of last year. But he has found playing time a bit more difficult to come by this season, with the success that has been the signing of Aaron Mooy.
Unsurprisingly, there have been rumours which have suggested that O’Riley is looking towards the exit door. Several Premier League clubs are believed to be interested as well. But as reported by Football Insider, when asked if the Englishman will want to stay at Celtic next season and prove himself to Ange Postecoglou, Alan Hutton said:
"“Absolutely.“There is no doubting he has got the quality to play in there week in week out.“He was first choice for a while and then he kind of dropped out a little bit. The competition is still very high.“But there is potential to win a treble, Champions League football next season. Where is he aiming for? A Premier League team, a top ten side?“I think he has still got a lot to prove and a lot to give for Celtic and I think he will want to continue that on to next season.“"
Celtic player tipped to stay on despite exit rumours
O’Riley might have not been a regular starter for Celtic in recent months, but he is still a very important player for this team. And there is no question about his talent at all.
Thus, the best case scenario would be for O’Riley to stay on the club beyond this campaign. He has all the tools required to re-establish himself as one of the first names on the team sheet.
It is also worth remembering that O’Riley is just 22 years of age. He has plenty of time to develop his game further and make a move to the Premier League in the future.
